Kristina Young

Trupanion Team Trainer

How long have you worked at Trupanion?
I have been with Trupanion since April 2012.

What’s your role at the company?
I am the Contact Center Team Trainer, so I am responsible for training the new hires coming in as part of the sales and service teams, as well as providing continuing education training to keep the contact center team members up-to-date on policies and procedures.

Do you have any pets? If so, what kind and what are their names?
I am the happy mother of my sweet 2-year-old Sylvie Mae. She is my first kitten after I lost my childhood best friend, Shadow, at the ripe old age of 20. Sylvie Mae is named after my great-grandmother Sylvia, whom I was very close with. My other baby is a 5 year old guinea pig, Roca (like Almond Roca). They’re both playful and keep me busy!

Do you bring your pets to work?
I do not. If guinea pigs were allowed, I would bring Roca in a cat carrier. I would love to bring Sylvie Mae; however, I can’t bring myself to want to deal with a litter box at work. One at home is enough!

Do you have a favorite story you want to share about your pet(s)?
Other than the ones I already have shared… Sylvie Mae is definitely a vibrant soul, and I knew she would be from the moment I met her at the shelter – she was demanding of attention and being petted, and made that clear by head-butting me from every which way. One habit she developed when she came home with me and got comfortable was the hoarding of my socks! Sylvie Mae would pull pairs of socks out of my basket and collect them either next to the bed, under the bed or even on top of the bed. Since she was a mamma kitty when she entered the shelter, I’m not sure if her goal is to care for the socks as her kittens, or if she treats them as prey. Either way, she’s a great collector, and when my basket of clean socks is empty, I know I need to steal them back from her stash! It’s the most adorable thing I’ve ever seen.

My favorite thing to do is:
I love to sing, spend time with family (when I’m back home in South Dakota) and friends, hike, and pursue my faith in God.

If I could go anywhere in the world it would be:
I would love to someday visit Bali for a self-discovery/rejuvenation meditation retreat.

What I like about working at Trupanion:
Trupanion has a true family feel about it, the way everyone interacts and looks after one another. Everyone has a passion for the good of pets and it’s genuine. You don’t find that a lot. Other employers may say things like “We’re all family,” but it feels like it’s a blanket statement on the surface. People at Trupanion truly care, and it shows. I’ve never felt more cared for by my managers, either, than I do here.
