How long have you worked at Trupanion?

Since November 2011, Oh how time flies!

What’s your role at the company?

Veterinary Systems Specialist - IE Trupanion Express Guru

Do you have any pets? If so, what kind and what are their names?

I have quite a few pets (all rescues): Thea (Pit bull), Kronos (Pit/boxer mix of sorts), Pickle (Chihuahua) and 3 cats!

Do you bring your pets to work?

Kronos comes to work with me. He is a goof ball and LOVES the office environment. Pickle used to come, but was recently diagnosed with carcinoma so he gets to spend his days lounging at home. Thea prefers to spend her days on my bed napping in the sunshine.

Do you have a favorite story you want to share about your pet(s)?

I adopted Thea from a local PAWS shelter, but when I visited the shelter that day I wasn’t expecting to take home a dog, let alone fall in love. I had been looking around at Pit Bulls because they are a favorite breed of mine and they overpopulate the shelters. I had visited a couple of shelters earlier in the day just to see what was out there. I spent about 20 minutes at PAWS looking at one half of their kennels (which included some pretty adorable dogs, including some puppies) but when I walked to the other side of their facility, I was immediately drawn to a kennel about half way down. There was Thea. The instant she saw me she grabbed a ball and brought it to the front of the kennel and pushed it against the door trying to play with me. I read her card which indicated that she was “shy” and a “wall-flower”. I was surprised at this because I saw nothing of that! I immediately brought her kennel card up front and asked to see her out in the play pen. She and I played fetch for a while but mostly she just stared at me longingly and leaned against me. My heart was stolen but I wasn’t convinced (mostly because I didn’t have all the items needed to adopt a dog!). I talked with the adoption manager who told me we’d be a perfect fit. I came back later that day with all of the adoption gear I could think to buy. As soon as I got her and put the harness around her chest, she was pulling me to my car (somehow she knew which one was mine). She jumped in the back and seemed content. On the drive back she helped me choose her own name. When we finally got home after what had seemed like a very long day, she instantly grabbed a ball I had bought her, jumped up on my bed and fell fast asleep. She was home.

My favorite thing to do is:

I would say hiking with my dogs, or just spending time with them in general.

If I could go anywhere in the world it would be:

Right now that would be Lopez Island. I have a soft spot for the area and luckily get to visit often!

What I like about working at Trupanion:

There us a supportive, friendly environment. I could not ask for a better manager or coworkers. Plus how could you say no to so many sweet dogs in your office??
