Peter Beaumont
Independent Consultant/Entrepreneur
Dr. Peter R. Beaumont is a veterinarian and entrepreneur living in New Jersey. His work experience has been as a principal, owner, board member or angel investor in several ventures, both inside and outside the veterinary profession, as well as in the USA and UK.
He joined Maveron in 2007 and has concentrated on health and wellness portfolio companies and Maveron operations.
Peter received his veterinary degree from the University of Edinburgh's Veterinary School and completed an internship and residency in small animal soft-tissue surgery at the University of Pennsylvania's Veterinary Hospital after receiving a Thouron Scholarship. He also graduated from New York University's Stern Business School with an MBA, and Purdue University's Krannert Business School with a Certificate in Veterinary Practice Management. He is a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
For twenty-five years Peter was the owner and President of Madison Veterinary Hospital, which employed a staff of forty and became one of the largest practices in New Jersey. During this period he also owned Madison Feed and Pet Supply, a pet retail and grooming business. Both these companies were sold to a regional consolidator in 2005.
Peter is co-founder and Chairman of Pizza Systems, Inc., a regional fast-food franchisor. He is the sole member of Yorkshire Realty I, LLC, a computer-leasing and commercial real estate ownership/management company, and the managing member of Yorkshire Realty II, LLC, which builds custom single-family homes.
Some of Peter's other ventures include: co-founder of Veterinary Practice Initiatives Ltd. in the United Kingdom, which was a regional consolidator of individual veterinary practices; co-founder of Vetmark, Inc., a Minnesota- based veterinary hospital/retail store/pet grooming concept sold in 2003; partner in Veterinary Business Development, Ltd., a database marketing company in the UK, which expanded to become a niche publishing powerhouse developing new magazines for the European veterinary market and was sold to a global publisher in 2000; and owner of Mijanou Restaurant, which was renovated and in 1998 sold to a London restaurant chain.
With twelve previous board appointments, including the New Jersey Association for Biomedical Research and the New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association, Peter brings extensive experience in corporate governance to the Trupanion board. He also acts as Chairman of Trupanion's Veterinary Advisory Board. Peter additionally serves on the Development Board of the University of Edinburgh and on the board of Pet Angel Inc. In his spare time, Peter enjoys art, travel, photography and gardening. Community involvement includes a term on the board of a local school for children with autism.
Peter is married to MaryRuth and has five children between the ages of 17 and 28. The sole family pet is "Bear", a 145-pound Caucasian Ovcharka adopted after the Beaumonts lost their beloved German Shepherd, "Jessie", to liver cancer.
